Some recent success stories . . .

I am writing to thank you for your support in my job search. I have been unemployed for over two years and you have no idea how much it has meant to me to have support as I sat here alone looking for a job—even there are thousands of older adults like me. I finally found a job with your help. It will help me pay my bills and let me continue to pay my rent and live in Marin.

"I like it here because of my friends and the friendly teachers." - Gary, 6th grader, NEST program

I have been in my after school program for one year and one summer. After school, I take a long bus ride here. I have to walk up a steep hill, but it is worth my time. Last year I learned fractions, dividing, and factors. The teachers gave us worksheets for after homework, and then after the worksheets we get to read pretty interesting books. Last summer I learned new, exciting games. We also get snacks every day. I like it because of my friends and the friendly teachers.
“In no other part of my life have I met so many strong, dedicated, passionate, intelligent women than at the YWCA.” – Hilary, former staff member

The YWCA has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have been involved with the YWCA through volunteering, program participation, program planning, and participation in Regional and World YWCA Meetings and most recently as an employee at the YWCA San Francisco & Marin doing Program Coordination, Planning and Volunteer Recruitment. In no other part of my life have I met so many strong, dedicated, passionate, intelligent women than at the YWCA. I feel lucky to be a part of the YWCA movement and know that I am a stronger person due to my history with this organization.

“This organization walks the talk.” – Barbara, former board member

I have been involved with the cause of women's empowerment since college, so I was delighted to be recruited for the YWCA Board of Directors. This organization walks the talk, promoting growth and empowerment for board members, employees, and volunteers as well as clients and the community at large.

My name is Yau Hay Chui, and I am 78 years old. I went to Berry’s English class for the first time in June 2010 because my God daughter told me about a great English class at the YWCA. I take the bus for 1 hour from the Sunset 3 times a week for her class. I love Berry’s class! It is so much fun and I have learned so much English! My brother is 82 years old and he goes with me to Berry’s class. I like the other students too. I even tell people on the bus and at my church to come to Berry’s class. I like the English parties best!
